Redefining Home & Making It Your Sanctuary

“You can’t feel at home anywhere if you aren’t home within your mind, body, soul, and the Earth.”

We all know the saying home is where the heart is, but connection between the four mentioned homes is what has us feeling balanced, safe and relaxed.

In our busy modern world, it is so easy for our mind to be overstimulated, leading to less energy, and ultimately the mind can create an “abuser- victim” situation that most therapists will see with their clients.

From an Ayurvedic standpoint, mental unease, fear, anxiety and frustration can become a breaking point for pain & disease.

Anxiety is widely accepted by society as stress, and it is a result of the body and mind being misaliged.

When we are in a chronic state of anxiety our physical and mental defenses become vulnerable.

Our energy becomes clouded. And our soul or spirit begins to veer from its dharmic path.,

This cycle continues as our minds stagnate and feel fatigued, lost, angst, or even unmotivated.

While Ayurveda can offer lots of dietary and herbal support- first and foremost it knows that we have to feel connected to our emotional, mental, and spiritual well being.

So how do we do this?

If there are dishes in your kitchen sink, you clean them up. The same principle applies to the mental, physical, and emotional parts of ourselves. Read on and note my CTAs. This is a business term for Call to Action!

These activities are some mindful exercises to help you feel at home with yourself.

BODY

Do you love & understand your body well enough?
Think of our body as a loved one or child who unconditionally nurtures us & is loyal to a fault.
This interpretation can help you silence negative self-talk while amicably addressing any health or body issues.

CTA: Work with an Ayurvedic Health Counselor. This will help you learn how to decode your body’s messages when something feels amiss while also paying attention to what makes your body feel good inside out. Health Counselors like myself can use these telltale signs and help you tailor a suitable health & diet plan for your unique body type.

MIND

Do you enjoy your own company or need to socialize to avoid it?
We live most of our lives inside our heads, which defines our attitude toward the world around us, and towards ourself.

CALL TO ACTION: Do some mental spring cleaning. Start an early morning meditation practice to journey inward so you can calm your monkey mind and tell the difference between inner truths & echoes of external opinions. Make it an attainable practice, even 5 minutes is great!

CALL TO ACTION: Indulge in mindful me-time with solo activities to connect & understand yourself better whether it’s time in nature, a spa visit, journaling, breathe work like Pranayama.

These help you relax, own who you are deep down, know when to be strict & kind to yourself, fine tune your principles, set boundaries, reflect on your actions, and exhibit unassuming confidence.

SOUL

What everyday activities make you feel content in life?
In Ayurveda, it is believed that each of us is a living miracle imbued with a soulful purpose.

Have you been in survival mode? Do you wake up feeling lazy with low energy? Or do you wake up feeling relaxed and purposeful?

Tune into this. The unfiltered, instinctive feeling you have of life the moment you wake up is your soul’s truth. This tells you exactly what you need to do differently.

Are you looking forward to the rest of the day? Or are you dreading certain things?

Ultimately this is your life unfolding in front of your very eyes.

CALL TO ACTION: Do a spiritual detox by cutting out whatever drains you and spending time with who & what feels right.

CALL TO ACTION: Understand your comfort zone & try being more open to new experiences.

CALL TO ACTION: Identify your mental blocks & attempt a new skill.

CALL TO ACTION: Do more of what fills your heart, read philosophical books, travel to places that challenge your perspectives, do volunteer work, or join a retreat that interests you.
CALL TO ACTION: Seek out a Jyotish (Vedic Astrologer) for spiritual counseling. They will help you mindfully navigate tough decisions and reveal soul-fulfilling activities to improve your quality of life.

EARTH

Do you feel connected to mama nature at least once a day?

Our mood, mindset, and attitude are often relative to our immediate surroundings.

If we dont conscisouly connect to earth’s powerful relaxing energy, we wont connect to it all.

CALLS TO ACTION!
Keep your home tidy! I know we all get busy, messiness will always happen. But dont let “I am too busy” be an excuse. A clean space feels like a place we love coming home to.

Make the energy of your immediate surroundings & your aura relaxing by burning incense, placing gemstones near you, put lavender in a diffuser, and play some calming music throughout your day.

Reconnect with the Earth by adopting season-appropriate immunity care; grounding activities like walks in a park, forest, or gardens barefoot, gardening, sitting by water bodies, and time with animals.

Try starting your day with a chant or mantra for the planet, such as for all beings everywhere to be happy and free.

Honor mama nature by being a good steward of the planet! Lead a cleaner, more sustainable life through recycling, repurposing, composting, reducing your carbon footprint, and going organic ( I am talking cleaning supplies to food.)
This helps your inner homes & the environment remain in a perpetual positive feedback loop.

Living in alignment with nature really means living in alignment with your truest self.

This wisdom of Ayurveda is here to remind you to take care of all aspects of your “home”.

Make you mind, your physical home, and your life, your sanctuary.

Which do you need help feeling at home in?

As always. I am here to be of service.
